Why is cholesterol important for your body to become healthy?

Some say that cholesterol is good, while some say that it is bad for the body. It is easy for anybody to get confused regarding this matter. It is important for people to know that there are two types of cholesterol. HDL, the good cholesterol, is the one that the body really needs. On the other hand, LDL is the one that is bad for the health.

How important is HDL anyway? This good cholesterol is in charge of keeping the arteries safe from saturated fats. Since saturated fats can build up inside the artery walls, it is the job of HDL to scrub them off. In order to avoid buildup, the HDL transports the fats into the liver so that they could be processed there. The liver excretes these things as fecal waste. Since the HDL is in charge of the maintenance of the arteries, it should always be present in huge amounts. Without it, fat will simply pile up in the arteries and prevent blood from passing through. This can result in hypertension or even cardiovascular disease. People must do what they can so that their HDL levels increase.

How can a person increase his HDL levels? First, he must learn how to eat the right types of foods. Fruits and vegetables are recommended since they also help clean the artery walls. Products that are made from whole grain, such as wheat breads, oatmeal, and cereals, are recommended for breakfast. Healthy foods will help the body produce more HDL cholesterol. People should also avoid the foods that could increase the bad cholesterol levels. These foods are red meat and other dairy products. Aside from proper diet, regular exercise is also advisable. Regular exercise will keep the heart very healthy. It will also reduce the amount of fats in the body.
